The Japanese had attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Then,
The Record Newspaper on Tuesday, February 17, 1942, carried this article on six Hackensack young men, living within one block of each other, getting ready to leave for Fort Dix, NJ that day.
There are nine Hackensack young men mentioned in article, two are already in service, and one is Julius Malkin, an attorney who lived in another area of Hackensack.
There is a Jack Malkin and Seymour Malkin listed on the Original Wall Unit at Hackensack High School. Julius could very well be Jack, but I have no way of knowing for sure his relationship to either person, so we will add Julius Malkin to our list.
The article states he is an alumnus of Hackensack Schools and has been in law practice for eight years at the time of departure for
Fort Dix, NJ.
